In 1928, the CB&Q built 500 single sheathed box cars at its Galesburg shops. These cars were designated class XM-28 and numbered 25000-25499. The cars were 8'6" IH and employed Howe truss 'zee' bar framing for the sides. In addition, these cars used 4/4 Dreadnaught ends, Hutchins Dry Lading roofs, Andrews trucks.
