In 1947, the Clinchfield purchased three hundred box cars built to the 10'0" IH 1944 AAR design. The 10'0" IH necessitated a 3/4 Improved Dreadnaught end, rather than the standard 4/4 design of the 10'6" cars. These cars had Youngstown corrugated doors and Apex Tri-Lok running boards. They were numbered 5250-5549.
