Soph Marty Photo

The Lackawanna had 1,000 steel box cars that were derivatives of the USRA steel design that was so popular with the New York Central. They were in the 47000-47999. This car illustrates the changes that the Lackawanna made to upgrade the cars: Murphy panel roofs, steel running boards and Superior panel doors along with patch panels to repair the rusted-out bottoms of the sides. This Soph Marty photo was taken in 1962. If you have more information about these cars, please share it with us. Send an email to gallery@steamfreightcars.com.
