There were three hundred L&A Howe truss cars in the 12000-12299 series, built in 1930. They had radial roofs, indented Dreadnaught ends and doors with bottom rollers. There were 291 cars in 1948.
The lettering of the L&A cars included the reporting marks and car number in the far left section, "Louisiana & Arkansas" across the entire left side, broken by the bracing, and the L&A "The Better Way" symbol (L&A 11135 with this herald) on the upper portion of the second section from the right. In later years, repaintings ignored the herald
