Soph Marty Photo

In 1947, American Car & Foundry delivered five hundred 40' auto cars to the Union Pacific. They featured two of the UP "standards" of the time: welded underframes and Alternate Center Rivet sides. The cars were classified A-50-19 and numbered 176000-176499. Other details included 4/4 Improved Dreadnaught ends, Apex Tri-Lok running boards and brake steps, Camel corrugated doors and fixtures, Murphy panel roofs and Universal, Equipco, Superior, Ajax and Miner hand brakes. The Soph Marty photo was taken in 1959 and shows the car with the "Be Specific, ship Union Pacific" slogan with the large, bold UNION PACIFIC on the left of the doors.
